I'm quite interesting in your illustrations, but this one is particularly interesting. I'm just wondering how exactly you choose what to draw, since toothpicks aren't exactly of interest to post people. Would you agree that this particular illustration works better in context of your other work, or would you say that it's strong enough on it's own? I'm quite curious.
Hi Neil, Sorry for the late reply - and thanks for the great question. I would think that this works better in context with my other post-it drawings, particularly the ones about celebrity. I'm interested in our fascination with famous people, right down to what they wear, where they shop, and other minutiae of life. Carla Bruni was on the cover of Vanity Fair recently, so she seemed like a good subject. Someone more widely commented on like Britney Spears is too obvious of a choice. And toothpicks are about as mundane as you can get. I like to combine the famous, the extraordinary, with the normal, the everyday. We forget that 'they' are people, human beings.
Oh dearie me! I know. This is what I get for multitasking at work: exposure to nifty art, and exposure of embarassing mistakes. I'll put my proper noun privileges in the fishbowl till I sober up.
